Really want to use repeated event for group events with invites?

You really don't want to do this.  See calendar help for best practice.

Don't believe us?  Ok here you go...

1.  Set up the event including all repetitions but with no no one invited.  Invitations are handled later.

2. For each occurrence of the event, some time before the event but after the previous occurrence of the event do the following:

(1) Click on Calendar under the Member Calendar tab

(2) Navigate to the event and click on it.

(3) Click "Edit this Event"

(4) If this is the first time you have done invitations for this event skip to step (9).

(5) Scroll down and under invitations click "Select None" to clear all previous selections.

(6) Select "Update just this event" (even though you do this, the invitations setting will be cleared for all events, the system does not handle separate participant lists for each event occurrence.)

(7) Click "Update Event"

(8) Click "Edit this Event"

(9) Scroll down to Invitations and click "I want to invite people to this event" (note that step (7) is what caused this box to be unchecked.)

(10) Click the people to invite or "Select All" below the box showing the available invitees. Note in particular that selections get highlighted.  If nothing is highlighted, no one is selected.

(11) Select "Update just this event" (see step (6) for further commentary on this step)

(12) Scroll down and click "Update Event."  This action causes a very cool email to be sent to the selected participants where they can select Yes, Maybe, No and that response is recorded in the system.

(13) Cash in your Zion Tech Team Gold star - take to Starbucks - that and $5.50 to get a latte.
